Nope, it’s not Sydney.
If you were hoping to close your afternoon with some soul-crushing information about the ridiculous cost of living in Australia, you’ve come to the right place.
As The Daily Mail has shared, the biannual Rental Affordability Index has been released, revealing just how unaffordable Aussie cities have become.
Spoiler alert: they’re very unaffordable.
Now, while Aussies have grown used to the idea that Sydney as a city is basically the equivalent of a pretty but high maintenance partner who will drain your funds, you may be surprised to hear that it is not the city that topped the list, this time around.
The title of most unaffordable city in Australia has been awarded to Tassie’s capital city of Hobart, instead.
According to the report, locals in Hobart spent 29 per cent of their gross median income on rent in late 2017.
Sydney followed in a close second at 27 per cent with Brisbane and Melbourne coming in after that at 25 and 24 per cent.
The most affordable city was Perth, with rent costing 21 per cent of the West Australian residents’ gross median income.

Anyone else wanna move to Perth?
