Motorists all over Australia are frustrated and annoyed after a photo of cyclists riding on a Sydney road went viral on Facebook.
A driver snapped the picture which shows over 10 cyclists taking up a full lane on the road along Captain Cook Drive in Cronulla, despite the designated cycle lane next to them being completely empty.
The image was posted to the Facebook group ‘Perth – Have a whinge’, and quickly began circulating across Facebook.
Members of the groups were outraged, with many calling for increased legal action against cyclists who disobey road rules.
“They need to be made to use the bike lanes where provided, and be fined for not riding within their provided lane,” one user wrote.
Fellow cyclists slammed the move with one poster writing, “As a cyclists this pisses me off…we have our own lane and I doubt they’re matching the speed of the cars going by.”
However, other cyclists defended the move, stating that it was often unsafe for them to use the cycle lane.
“The cycle path is not safe because cars/trucks often drive over it. The safest place to be is smack in the middle of the road. Get used to it,” she wrote.
