Actress Sandra Bullock’s long term partner Bryan Randall has passed away aged 57 following a private battle with ALS.

The family confirmed the sad news in a statement to People Magazine, saying he “passed away peacefully”.

“It is with great sadness that we share that on Aug. 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS,” his family shared.

“Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did our best to [honour] his request.”

“We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours,” the family said in the statement.

“At this time we ask for privacy to grieve and to come to terms with the impossibility of saying goodbye to Bryan, His Loving Family,” the statement concluded.

Academy Award winning actress Bullock and Bryan first met in 20215 when photographer Randall photographed Bullock’s son Louis’s birthday party and began dating shortly afterwards according to People Magazine.

Notoriously private Bullock opened up about her relationship on Red Table Talk in 2021, saying that she was happy with the status of her and Randall’s relationship.

“I found the love of my life. We share two beautiful children — three children, Randall’s older daughter. It’s the best thing ever,” Bullock told Red Table Talk.

“I don’t wanna say do it like I do it, but I don’t need a paper to be a devoted partner and devoted mother … I don’t need to be told to be ever present in the hardest of times. I don’t need to be told to weather a storm with a good man.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, ALS or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis “is a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord”.

ALS is often called Lou Gehig’s disease after the baseball player who was diagnosed with it.

There is no cure currently for the disease.
