Disneyland could soon be headed to Australia, with a Melbourne politician expressing interest in having park number seven in Victoria.
Melbourne’s Lord Mayor Sally Capp has thrown her support behind Victoria being home to Disneyland, telling the Herald Sun the park would boost the city’s reputation as a “city of fun”.
“As Australia’s capital city of fun, of course we should have a Disney theme park in Melbourne,” Capp said.
Capp flagged a piece of land near Avalon Airport and north of Geelong as a good location for Disneyland Down Under.
“At Fishermans Bend, exhilarating roller-coasters could soar over the Yarra as part of a Disneyland, Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom,” said Capp.
“I know a Disney theme park in our municipality would be a huge hit with residents – myself included – visitors, students and traders.”
Warren Randall, a winery owner in South Australia previously put his hand in the air for Disneyland, telling The Advertiser he wants to give Adelaide’s tourism a healthy boost by bringing Disneyland to the southern state.
“I think, in tourism, we’re all a little bit sick and tired of Adelaide being the place you fly over when you go from Sydney to Perth,” Randall told the publication.

“It is time we made a statement, a few statements, in our state. McLaren Vale would be my spot – wide, open, flat, next to the beach, next to the ranges – [it] makes a lot of sense.”
“I would love to make land available for the location to kickstart it. Definitely. Either you sell the land into a consortium or you lease it or you gift it — you find a way,” he added.
“We have the land. We’ve just got to have the will, the desire and the energy to put it together.”

If successful, this would be Disneyland’s seventh park joining California, Florida, Shanghai, Tokyo, Paris and Hong Kong.
Australia last appealed for a Disneyland theme park in the 1990s. At the time, the Gold Coast was reportedly in the final stages before Disney decided to build in Hong Kong instead.
The state government says it has not received a proposal from Disney to build a park in South Australia however with the attention the mere idea is getting, we’re sure it’ll be drafted up tout de suite.
