The spicy romantic drama Bridgerton has announced a much anticipated addition to the cast, Australian actress Yerin Ha.

Yerin will play Sophie Baek, the love interest of Luke Thompson’s Benedict Bridgerton.

Baek – known as The Lady in Silver – conceals a mysterious past, and her captivating depths will intrigue Benedict and viewers alike.

Yerin explained to Netflix’s TUDUM she was drawn to the challenges her character has to overcome on the upcoming series.

“What drew me to Sophie was that she immediately has obstacles — something that she constantly has to overcome.”

“The resourceful Sophie always finds a way to persevere through her circumstances — circumstances which will drastically change after she disguises herself to attend Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell) masquerade ball and meets Benedict.”

The character’s original name in the Julia Quinn series was Sophie Beckett, but this has been changed to a Korean surname out of respect for Yerin’s heritage, something Yerin said is powerful to her.

“A name is the first bit of identity that you share with the world, and that’s why changing a name can be so powerful,” Yerin said.

“To make Sophie’s name fit someone who looks like me is really empowering. All credit to Jess Brownell, our showrunner.”

Season four of the hit Netflix show will turn its focus to bohemian second son Benedict. Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is longing to settle down — until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball.”

No word yet on when we will see Bridgerton on our screens, with showrunner Jess Brownell previously confirming to The Hollywood Reporter the earliest we could see the hit Netflix show is 2026.

Dearest gentle reader, Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell has let slip when we could see the next season of the hit Netflix show and it’s not great news for fans.

But all is not lost because earlier in the year, Bridgerton creator Shonda Rhimes teased that we’ve still got many more years to come with the steamy romance.

“We are grateful for the incredible response Bridgerton has received from fans all around the globe,” Rhimes said.

“Shondaland is so proud that audiences far and wide have connected with our storytelling and the Bridgerton world we have built. We look forward to bringing more of this beloved universe to screens for years to come.”

Netflix has renewed the Regency era romance series through to season four, but Rhimes confirmed her team have discussed seasons six and seven.

Season one to three of the hit show plus prequel Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story are all currently available to stream on Netflix.
