A Central Coast pizzeria has been named among some of the best businesses in the world thanks to its innovation, community impact and sustainability.
Global website company Square announced Sorrento Pizzeria amongst the winners for its second edition of The Square 50 Award program.
The Square 50 Awards recognise businesses that are changing the entrepreneurial game in their respective fields with businesses nominated for their innovation, growth and sustainability efforts, as well as community impact and experience curation.
Located at Empire Bay, Sorrento Pizzeria brings authentic Napoletana pizza straight out of Italy to Central Coast.
Owner and head chef, Elia ‘Luigi’ Eliopoulou said the award means everything to him.
“Winning Square 50 means everything to me. I gave up my marketing career a few years ago to pour my soul into honouring our family’s century old tradition started in Naples by my Nonna,” Eliopoulou said.
“I feel that decision is more than vindicated with this award. My late mother Stella was the inspiration for Sorrento and taught me everything I know about resilience, traditional Napoletana pizza, and the importance of building community – this award is for her.”
Sorrento Pizzeria is one of nine Aussie businesses, joining the likes of viral Queensland bakery Brooki Bakehouse known for the giant New York-style cookies; Rocky Ridge Brewing, a Western Australian microbrewery; and ILZA, a rapidly growing Japanese restaurant and café based in Melbourne.
